The prisoner’s escape after a five-year sentence was revealed at the Sarolang District Court on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The video of the escape then immediately spread on social media. The inmates were seen escaping through the gate of the district court as they were led into a vehicle to be taken to a Class II prison, one inmate escaped into the forest by pulling his friend’s arms.
Sarolangun Jambi police chief AKBP Budi Prasetya said a joint team of the National Police, TNI and the Public Prosecution Service is still searching the forest for the escaped prisoner.

He explained on Thursday, July 11, 2024: “He escaped after being arraigned at the Saralangun District Court. When he was about to return to the car, a prisoner escaped and they are now trying to find him.”

Budi said the prisoner had a case of robbery and was a repeat offender, and he also escaped from prison but was arrested again. Thus, according to him, the sentence was five years in prison.
He therefore advised the public to immediately inform the authorities if they see an escaped prisoner.
“As for the escape of the prisoners, we hope that the public will remain vigilant and a joint team has entered the forest to search. People are expected to immediately report to the authorities or to the command post set up by the joint team,” he said.
He also advised the joint officers searching for the prisoners in the forest to arrest them in a humane manner and that if the prisoners resisted arrest, strict action would be taken against them immediately.
“We have ordered to arrest the escaped prisoners in a humane manner, and if they resist, we will take strict action against them,” he stressed.
According to him, the joint group also searched for the whereabouts of the detainees in the forest. One thing is clear, Budi continued, saying that his party will not stop searching for the escaped prisoner.
“The convict escaped on the evening of Wednesday, 10th July 2024, at approximately 16:47 WB, after serving his 5-year sentence at the Saralangun District Court,” he said.
