Viral amethyst poisoning kills 2 in Banjarmasin, dozens more being treated at RSJ!

According to reports, the victims allegedly consumed amethyst mixed with alcohol and illegal drugs. This causes them to experience hallucinations, stupor and even tremors.

The Twitter account @bacottetangga__ reported on the matter. On its Twitter account, the account claimed that Amethyst’s drunken incident in Banjarmasin resulted in the death of two people and that 35 others had to be treated at Sambang Lihum Psychiatric Hospital (RSJ).

According to information gathered from various sources, the two victims were treated at Sambang Lihum Psychiatric Hospital (RSJ) for several days before they died. But their lives could not be saved.

Director of RSJ Sambang Lihum, Yuddi Risvandi, confirmed the deaths of the two victims. He explained that the male patient passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, while the female patient passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

“The male patient died on Friday, July 5, 2024. The next female patient died on Tuesday, July 9, 2024,” said RSJ Sambang Lihum director Yuddi Riswandi.

In addition to the two deceased victims, Yuddi also revealed that there are another 35 patients suspected of amethyst poisoning who are still being treated at RSJ Sambang Lihum.

Meanwhile, the South Kalimantan Regional Police (Kalsel) is responding seriously to the phenomenon of mixing amethyst with illegal drugs in its region.

Head of the Public Relations Department of the South Kalimantan Police, Police Commissioner Adam Erwindi, said that the Narcotics Investigation Department of the South Kalimantan Police is currently investigating several cases that have been circulated on social media. His party has also identified several victims whose videos have been circulated on various social media platforms.

Police Commissioner Adam Erwindi also called on the public not to engage in such dangerous behaviour as it can threaten health and safety of life.

“We urge people not to imitate this behaviour because it is dangerous to health and safety,” Adam said.
