Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian National Police Commissioner Benny Mamoto was asked about the case of intentional murder by former National Police Propam Division Chief Ferdi Sambo against his subordinate Brigadier Josua. Benny explained that the information Kompolnas had at the time was very limited.

He said this during a trial interview as a candidate for the KPK Board of Supervisors or Dewas at the Indonesian State Secretariat Building (Setneg), Thursday, September 19, 2024.
“Kompolnas has a very limited mandate. It is different from Komnas HAM. It has an investigative mandate,” Benny said at the building of the State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia in central Jakarta.

Benny said that information about the Ferdi Sambo case was received only through the national police. Therefore, everything that the national police transmits is something that can be used as information for Kompolnas.

“This is what Kompolnas receives from the national police. We cannot do without it. calculator investigation,” said the retired two-star police general.
“So if the national police tell us something that is wrong, we are at risk,” Benny said.
He explained that the national police classified the sambo incident as a shootout between his assistant and his boss. In fact, when Kompolnas was called to the crime scene (TKP), he also received information similar to that transmitted by the national police.
“It turns out that all this was a fabrication to make Sambo look like he was in the wrong. Based on that material, we sent it to the media. The risk was the same because it was considered a defence,” he said.
Benny admitted that the next incident in which Kompolnas was in the spotlight was when he was disclosed to the media. He reiterated that Kompolnas’ powers are limited, so he must listen to information from the national police.
“Once again, because of our limited authority, we are often called spokespersons for the National Police. This is a risk. Because it is impossible for us to convey anything beyond what we receive from the National Police,” he continued.
