Michael explained that subsequent simulations of megathrust earthquakes will use an M8.7 scenario with an MMI impact scale of VI to VII.

“The seismic emergency simulation plan will use the scenario of a magnitude 8.7 earthquake in Sunda with an impact scale of MMI VI-VII,” he said.

As previously reported, DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) urged Jakarta residents to always be alert and prepare for the possibility of a strong earthquake or megathrust.

The call comes after a 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit Bandung Regency, with tremors felt in several areas of West Java on Monday morning.

BPBD reminds the public of the importance of preparing emergency bags containing essential items for survival during a disaster.

“For example, the “range” of incidents is from 3 days to a week. Of course, these are basic necessities such as clothing, medicines and important documents, which are kept in the “first aid bag,” said the head of the department. Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) BPBD DKI Jakarta Disaster Mohamed Yohan in Jakarta Hall, Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Apart from this, people can also scan these important letters and save the information on their mobile phones so that they can stay safe in case of a disaster.

Not to mention, Johan also called on people to prepare cash in emergency bags. Because during a disaster, the telecommunications network may be down, so banking operations such as transfers or using QRIS cannot be carried out.

“For example, like yesterday’s disaster in China. There was a city where everything was “free”. It became “free” and it was flooded. So when they wanted to buy basic necessities, they couldn’t. Because we all rely on it and on deliveries,” said Johan.
