Bumi Resources’ compatibility contributes to the development of the national industry: 97 percent of purchases are of local products

Jakarta, VIVA – PT Bumi Resources, Tbk (BUMI) is committed to fostering the development and sustainability of the domestic industry. One way is to consistently prioritize local suppliers through consumer activities.

BUMI, through one of its business units, namely PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), recorded purchases of domestic goods and services worth USD 2.215 billion during 2023. This figure is equivalent to 97 percent of the total purchase of goods and services (domestic and abroad).

The same was demonstrated last year (2022), with the proportion of purchases of goods and services from local and domestic suppliers reaching 97 percent of the total purchase volume. Therefore, it can be said that the contribution and policy of BUMI branches in determining the preference for local suppliers is quite appropriate.

BUMI Vice President of Investor Relations and Chief Economist Ahmad Reza Wijaja said empowering local suppliers is one of the key points of the principles. Good mining experience which the company implements in all areas of activity. Reza also emphasized BUMI’s commitment to always adding value to the environment and helping the community.

“BUMI is always trying to find other economic moves that can support prosperity, in accordance with the capacity of the community around the operational terrain,” Ahmed said in his statement, Friday, September 20, 2024.

In 2023, of the total domestic goods and services spent by KPC, US$4.96 million will come from 35 supporting suppliers. It is expected that community empowerment through industrial development around mining areas can encourage local supplier partners to further develop and become more competitive.

Meanwhile, sustainability criteria are prioritized in the selection and evaluation process of each partnership. Each supplier cooperating with BUMI is guaranteed to respect the principles of human rights and environmental protection. The procurement procedures for goods and services are carried out in a fair and transparent manner in order to obtain suppliers that meet the desired qualifications.

The opportunities of local suppliers is a synergy that is expected to make a real socio-economic contribution to both local and national communities and to the industry, the company itself, stakeholdersas well as for the country. Through various forms of strategic partnerships, companies can not only meet operational needs, but also contribute to stimulating regional and national economic development.
