Hat-trick West defends overall title at PON 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra

Delhi Serdang, VIVA – The West Java contingent successfully defended its title at the 21st National Sports Week (PON) 2024, Aceh-North Sumatra. West Java earned the Hattrick status with the most medals with 540 medals.

The announcement of the West Java contingent as the absolute champion, said KONI chief, retired TNI Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, in his speech. in a closed ceremony PON 2024, Aceh-North Sumatra, at the North Sumatra Main Stadium, Deli Serdang, Friday evening, September 21, 2024.

“The largest number of medals in PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 was won by the contingent from West Java province. As the absolute champion of PON with 195 gold medals, 163 silver medals and 180 bronze medals,” said Marciano Norman.

For reference, West Java has successfully maintained its overall champion status in the previous two editions, at PON XIX West Java 2016 and PON XX Papua 2021.

Meanwhile, hosts North Sumatra finished fourth with 254 medals, including 79 gold, 59 silver and 116 bronze. Meanwhile, sixth-placed Aceh won 193 medals with 65 gold, 48 silver and 79 bronze.

“Second place is the DKI Jakarta contingent, third place is East Java, fourth place is North Sumatra, fifth place is Central Java and sixth place is Aceh,” said Marciano Norman.

Marciano Norman expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Government of Indonesia, the Provincial Government of Aceh-North Sumatra (Pemprov) and stakeholders for their help in preparing for the success of PON XXI 2024.

“The dynamics that occur, including site preparation, equipment purchasing, layers and other services, can be implemented through coordination with multiple parties, while maintaining the commitment to achieve maximum PON goals,” said Marciano Norman.

Marciano Norman revealed that this year’s PON competition, which included 65 sports, was the largest during the PON event and resulted in several record-breaking events nationwide.

“As a legacy of PON XXI, in their respective regions, 18 sites in Aceh province will be renovated and built by the Ministry of PUPR. In addition, the province will renovate several sites,” said Marciano Norman.

“Meanwhile, North Sumatra will have a new national-level stadium, as well as several fields built and renovated by the province of North Sumatra,” added Marciano Norman.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Efendi conveyed the message of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo expressing his gratitude for bringing this SOP to the door of success.

“I received an order from the President to attend the closing ceremony of this PON,” said Muhadjir Efendi in his speech at the closing ceremony of PON XXI 2024, Aceh-North Sumatra.

Muhadjir Effendi said that PON XXII will be held in 2028 together with West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“Finally, with the representation of the Indonesian government, the 21st PON is officially closed and we will see you on the 22nd PON at NTB and NTT,” said Muhadjir Effendi.

During the implementation of PON XXI in 2024, Aceh-North Sumatra won the most medals and emerged as the overall champion, the West Java Contingent (West Java).

The closing ceremony was accompanied by cultural festivals from North Sumatra and Aceh, athletes from 38 Indonesian provinces and a fireworks display.
