One of them is PT Inerco Global International Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hendrik Cavilarang, who said that TKDN’s calculus in the industry is still not in favor of local industry players.
In fact, according to him, the prospects for the domestic steel pipe industry to meet the needs of the domestic oil and gas industry are still very promising.

Hendrick said in a statement on Saturday, September 21, 2024: “The current TKDN bill does not favor domestic seamless steel pipe producers.”

According to him, Indonesia still imports seamless steel pipes worth Rp 15 trillion annually. In fact, demand for seamless steel pipe products is also increasing along with the government’s efforts to increase domestic oil production.
“The demand for seamless steel pipes for the domestic oil and gas industry is currently 500,000 tons per year.
In order to be proud of domestic products and effective efforts, Hendrick stressed the need to make efforts to localize and optimize the capabilities and capabilities of domestic seamless steel pipe manufacturers. The goal is nothing less than for seamless steel pipe manufacturers to be key players to single-handedly meet market needs.
“On the other hand, the increase in the local quantity of seamless steel pipes also continues to ensure optimal added value. At the same time, the trade balance deficit for seamless steel pipe products is being reduced,” Hendrick said.
He hopes that the government and other stakeholders will adapt to the domestic seamless steel pipe industry so that it can become an independent master in its own country. Hendrick said that the superficiality of the current government is not fully reflected in the domestic steel pipe industry.
This can be seen from the calculation of the TKDN achievement level for seamless steel pipe products provided by the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia.
“So far, the level of achievement of TKDN certificates for seamless steel pipes refers to the data of the inventory list of domestically produced goods/services P3DN. https://tkdn.kemeperin.go.id“It seems that this is still not enough to provide the ideal proportion of domestic producers,” he concluded.
