Catherine Crosby, the actress best known for the film “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” and Bing Crosby’s second wife, has died at the age of 90.


Kathryn Crosby, the actress and singer best known for such films as “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” and her marriage to Bing Crosby, died Friday of natural causes. She was 90.

Originally from Texas, she was born Olive Catherine Grandstaff in 1933. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and during this time had occasional supporting roles in films such as The Immortal Woman and Rear Window.

After graduating in 1955, he moved to Los Angeles and began working, landing his first role that same year.Cell 2455 Death Row“, a drama starring William Campbell and Robert Wright Campbell. It was in this film that she first used her stage name Catherine Grant.

The actor appeared in 16 more films throughout the decade, including Sinbad (1958), a special effects-driven fantasy film by Ray Harryhausen. Grant plays Princess Parisa opposite Kerwin Matthews as Sinbad. Although the film was a success, it was to be her last regular acting role.

Shortly after beginning her acting career, Grant met Bing Crosby, who had been widowed a few years earlier. The couple married in 1957, at which time she took his surname and became known professionally as Catherine Crosby.

After The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Crosby largely retired from acting, although he made occasional appearances on the Bing television show in the 1960s and hosted a talk show on local San Francisco television in the 1970s. He also registered nurse in the 1960s.

After Bing’s death in 1977, Crosby returned to acting, primarily on stage, including the Broadway revival of “State Fair” in 1996. He also hosted the Crosby National Golf Tournament charity event held at Bermuda Run, North Carolina, for years.

Crosby is survived by his three children, Bing, Harry, Mary and Nathaniel, and his grandchildren. No plans for a funeral or memorial service have been announced to the public.
