Fire at former courthouse near Dodger Stadium extinguished after smoke alarm from fan

A structure fire on the border of Glassell Park and State Park sent thick gray smoke billowing over Dodger Stadium Saturday night, worrying some fans who were there to watch the Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies.

According to spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, the Los Angeles Fire Department sent 16 fire companies to fight the blaze for 42 minutes before extinguishing it at 6:37 p.m. She said more than 100 firefighters were involved in the effort and no one was injured.

Asked about the cause of the fire, Stewart said, “The scene remains under investigation, as per protocol” for major fire emergencies.

The fire reportedly destroyed a single-story, 100-by-200-foot converted former courthouse at 1158 N. San Fernando Road. LAFD StatementA nearby two-story building was “protected from damage by crews,” the statement said.

Some baseball fans shared nervous posts on social media from inside Dodger Stadium.

“This is growing by the minute,” one person said on X, along with a photo of him looking at the smoke from the stadium.

“Ugh… there’s a huge smoke situation outside Dodger Stadium,” wrote another.
