Jakarta —National Police Criminal Investigation Agency’s anti-drugs director, Police General Mukti Juharsa, said placing drug addicts, so-called drug addicts, in rehabilitation centres is a precautionary measure.

The former director of Narcotics Investigation of Metro Jaya Police said that if drug addicts who were drug users are placed in cells, this could lead to them joining the ranks of dealers and pushers.

“My program is a rehabilitation program for the treatment of drug addicts. Because drug addicts are locked up in cells without rehabilitation, they become smarter,” he said.

He said that currently the information on the number of patients who have received treatment is about 40 thousand people. This is based on the results of cooperation between the National Agency for Combating Narcotics (BNN) and the Prosecutor’s Office.

“Across Indonesia, 40,000 people have been rehabilitated. We are cooperating with BNN and the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.
