Pfaadt beats Fried as Diamondbacks beat Braves

Brandon Pfaadt defeated Max Fried in a tight six-inning game, Jake McCarthy hit a shot over the wall in the ninth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Atlanta Braves 1-0 on Thursday.

Pfaadt (4-6) looked sharp for his fourth straight start, allowing three hits and striking out four to earn the win after going three straight without a decision.

Fried (7-5) allowed one run and five hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking three. The right-hander’s only run came in the fifth inning on a 437-foot homer by Eugenio Suarez.

The night before, Venezuela made a 452-foot field goal in a 7-5 win over Arizona.

Arizona had not gone 1-0 at home since Sept. 19, 2011, when Justin Upton homered against Pittsburgh.

For the Braves, Dominican Marcell Ozuna has a 4-2 record. Puerto Rico Eddie Rosario 3-0. Venezuela Orlando Arcía 2-1.

For the Diamondbacks, Dominican Ketel Marte was 2-for-4, Geraldo Perdomo was 0-for-3. Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno was 1-for-3, Suarez was 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
