Animated reboot of “Barney's World” premieres on Max in October

Barney with an animated series from Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery returns. The animated film “Barney’s World” premieres on October 14 on Max.

A scripted premiere will follow on Cartoon Network on October 18. watch on youtube starting October 11. This first season has 52 episodes, each of which has a duration of 11 minutes.

This is the first time in 14 years that the iconic purple dinosaur has returned to television. This new version takes place on a playground where Barney is joined by his friends Billy and Baby Bop, as well as his three best friends from childhood: David, Mel and Vivi. As they embark on action-packed, musical adventures, Barney helps his new friends and the audience experience big emotions while learning to love themselves, each other and their communities.

The “Barney’s World” dinosaurs include Jonathan Langdon (“ZOMBIE”) as the titular singing dinosaur, Barney; Bryn McAuley (“Hotel Transylvania: The Series”) as the lovable and headstrong Baby Bop, who is all about feelings; and Jonathan Tan (“Rubble & Crew”) as the energetic Billy, who loves action and loud noises. As for their human friends, they include Jade Deroche (“The Adventures of Super Why’s Comics”) as the soulful and self-absorbed David; Diana Choi (“CoComelon Lane”) as the energetic and competitive Mel, who is of Korean and Mexican descent and speaks three languages; and Ella Paciocco (“Vocal Star”) as the creative Vivi who lives with Nonna.

“Mattel TV’s mission is to develop and distribute long-form and episodic content that expands Mattel’s characters and stories across print and streaming platforms around the world,” Josh Silverman, Mattel’s chief franchise officer, said in a statement Wednesday. “Barney inspires the power of love in all of us and we’re excited to bring him back to fans around the world. We hope this modern revival leaves a lasting impression on young audiences and teaches them lessons that will have a positive impact as they grow older.”

“Barney’s World” is a co-production of Mattel Television Studios and Nelvana from Corus Entertainment. Executive producers are Michele Mendelowitz and Josh Silverman for Mattel and Athena Georgaklis, Doug Murphy, Melanie Welsh, Troy Reeb and Pam Westman for Nelvana.
