Keke Palmer R-rated comedy with SZA to premiere in January on Sony

Keke Palmer’s untitled R-rated buddy comedy starring SZA will be released by Sony Pictures on January 25, 2025, the studio announced Friday. Oscar-nominated and four-time Grammy-winning artist SZA will make her big-screen debut in the film.

The film is directed by Lawrence Lamont (“Rap Sh!t”) from a script written by “Rap Sh!t” Syretha Singleton. Plot details for the buddy comedy are being kept under wraps.

HOORAE’s Issa Rae and Sarah Diya Rastogi, ColorCreative’s Denise Davis and MACRO Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez and Poppy Hanks are producing. Singleton is co-producing. Big Boss Palmer and Sharon Palmer are executive producing. MACRO Film Studios is also co-financing.

The supporting cast includes Lil Rel Houry, Janelle James, Kayla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, Patrick Cage and Amin Joseph.

The project was assembled at Sony Pictures’ CoCre Lab. The Lab was a previous partnership between ColorCreative and Sony Pictures to seek out and incubate emerging and diverse screenwriters to develop and write their studio’s first feature film based on original ideas.

Previously, in December 2022, Palmer and SZA teamed up for the first time for Saturday Night Live, when Palmer hosted the show and SZA was the musical guest.
