‘La Mirada’: Joan Vassos swears against skeptic Ana Navarro ‘The Bachelorette’ was not written

Ana Navarro has long wondered how much reality there is on the reality show The Bachelor, so on Friday morning’s episode of The View, she decided to ask a contestant directly. And Joan Vassos swore it was definitely not scripted.

Fans first met Vassos as a contestant on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor, where she left early with her daughter. She is now the lead on “The Golden Bachelor” with 24 men vying for her love.

During an appearance on ABC’s Vassos talk show, Navarro talked about how she’s not a fan of the series (which she keeps a secret, of course). That said, she admitted that she “wants to change.” Navarro wondered what Vassos would say to skeptics like him who “think everything is scripted and predetermined and it’s too sad for school.”

“Yes, I totally understand why you think that. Honestly, it’s not scripted at all,” Vassos replied. “Aside from finding people who think they’re right for you, it’s a big problem because it’s not easy to go out and find yourself in the wild.”

Vassos said he was grateful to have 24 potential legal matches and reiterated that, at least in his experience, everything was real.

“But to be honest, it’s not scripted. It’s really not. They never tell you what to say, they never tell you who to pick,” he said. “They set you up on dates, so it’s really fun, but they have your say in it. They ask you what you want to do. So, honestly, it’s not scripted. At least it wasn’t on my season of ‘The Bachelor.’ And neither was the season of The Golden Bachelor.”

Navarro wasn’t immediately fazed, but he didn’t press the issue further and host Alyssa Farah Griffin kept things moving.

“The View” airs Monday through Friday at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
