According to observers, the East Java Community is unique and needs an additional strategy to win the gubernatorial election.

“I see that the practice of monetary policy is considered normal,” said Devi Angraini in Padang, Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

For example, Devi said, a person who wants to run for election comes to a meeting with the public and gives some money. At the same time, voters who receive money think that they should vote for that candidate during the election.

“So there is a kind of community exchange mentality. They think that the person who was elected no longer cares and doesn’t know the community,” he said.

He said that in general, the practice of monetary policy often occurs among grassroots groups who have relatively little understanding of politics. The limited political education they acquire makes this group think more pragmatically.

However, Dewey believes that people with a broad knowledge of politics do not easily fall into the trap of monetary politics. Instead of receiving a certain amount of money from a candidate, this group thinks more about finding a leader who can develop the region.

In this regard, he stressed that election organizers and regional governments should strengthen public awareness about monetary policy. In addition to leading to crime, monetary policy also harms democratic values.

“The public must be informed that this monetary policy can lead to crimes. This means that there must be public awareness on the part of the interested parties,” he said.

On the other hand, Bawaslu RI President Rahmat Bagja said that taking into account the information on the trend of national electoral decisions on criminality in 2020, dozens of cases related to Law No. 10 of 2016 on regional elections have been registered.

He mentioned that 65 cases of party presidents or officials of the State Civil Service (SSC) violated article 188, because they committed actions that were beneficial or detrimental to the two candidates.

In the following cases, 22 cases violated paragraph 1 of Article 187 A, i.e. giving and/or promising money and/or other material. There were also 12 cases of violation of Article 178 B regarding voting more than once in one or more polling stations. In the other 10 cases, paragraph 3 of Article 187, i.e. violation of the provisions of the election campaign. (ant)
