Former Bad Boy Records rapper Shyne says Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs ‘ruined my life’ as mogul awaits trial

Former Bad Boy Records rapper Shine has a powerful message for Sean “Diddy” Combs amid the mogul’s legal battle: “This is someone who ruined my life.”

The Belizean hip-hop artist-turned-politician broke his silence at a press conference earlier this week about Combs’ recent legal troubles, bringing up the ’90s shooting that destroyed his relationship with the Bad Boy Records founder.

“This is someone who testified against me at my trial,” Schein said at the conference, according to a shorten It was broadcast on Belize Radio Love FM on Thursday.

“I was defending him and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me,” Shayne (born Jamal Barrow) said, “he practically sent me to jail.”

Schein, one of Combs’ former bodyguards, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2001 on assault charges in a 1999 New York nightclub attack involving Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. Three bystanders were injured. Combs was acquitted in the widely publicized case. Shain was released in 2009 and deported to his home country.

The former entertainer, whose career was shattered by the court’s verdict, said in a press conference that he had “forgiven” and “moved on.” He acknowledged Combs’ efforts to help promote education in Belize, but distanced himself from his former mentor. He explained that their relationship was far from friendly.

“This is not someone I’ve been on vacation with and (with whom) I’ve enjoyed this great brotherhood,” Shain said.

Shine’s comments came after Combs was arrested Monday night and charged with three counts of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for prostitution. He remains in a federal prison in Brooklyn, New York, awaiting trial.

Combs’ alleged history of sexual assault came to light when his ex-girlfriend and singer Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura sued the rapper in November 2023. The suit was settled a day after it was filed but was reopened for civil lawsuits, including those from producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones and singer Danity Kane Dawn Richard.

Mounting allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking paved the way for a federal investigation that included Department of Homeland Security raids in March at Combs’ residences in Holby Hills and Miami.

shine that who had previously condemned Combs’ “disgusting behavior,” reiterated at the end of her press conference the negative impact the disgraced music and media entrepreneur had on her career. She appears to have taken the right path.

“This is the one that ruined my life,” she said. “But do I feel any joy or satisfaction about what is happening? Absolutely not.”
