VIVA – Australia head coach Graham Arnold has officially announced that he will step down from his role on Thursday, 19 September 2024. The decision comes after Australia’s poor showing in the first two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region.

Australia have underperformed in their first two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia. The team nicknamed The Socceroos lost 0:1 to Bahrain at home on September 10, 2024.
Australia then did not compete when they visited the main Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta on 10 September 2024. The World Cup favourite faced Indonesia with a 0-0 score.

And after 10 days of playing for the Indonesian national team, Arnold finally decided to end his career as Australia’s coach. He said it was time for Australia to have a new coach.
“After careful consideration, I believe it is time for new management to lead the team forward,” France 24 said in a statement.

Arnold’s decision adds to the list of coaches who resigned and were fired after the match against Shin Tae-yong’s Indonesian team. Seven coaches are reported to have died.
7. Damien Hertog (Saudi Arabia U-19 national team)
Dutch coach Damien Hertog was the first coach to fall victim to the Indonesian national team and Shin Tae-yong. Unfortunately, he was fired due to a trial match with the Indonesian national under-19 team.
The Saudi Arabian U-19 national team won 3-0 and defeated the Indonesian U-19 national team 3-3! After the match, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation decided to fire Damien Hertog.

6. Tatsuma Yoshida (Singapore)
Japan coach Tatsuma Yoshida has decided to step down as Singapore coach after failing to qualify for the 2020 AFF Cup in 2022. Singapore lost to Indonesia in the semi-finals.
In both matches, Singapore always lost, losing 3-5 on aggregate. Following this defeat, Tatsuma Yoshida decided to step down as coach of the Singapore national team.
5. Tan Cheng Hoe (Malaysia)
Tan Cheng Hoe dominated Malaysia in 2018-2019. Under his cool hands, Malaysia reached the final of the 2018 AFF Cup and performed well in the first matches of the second round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region, including a 3-2 victory over Indonesia at the SUGBK.
However, in 2021, the performance of the Malaysian national team has declined. Meanwhile, Kuwait have failed to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup, Czech passport holder Vitezslav Lavicka has said after being sacked.
3. Dinh Te Nam (Vietnam U-20 Team)
Dinh Nam should have been on hand to lead Vietnam’s U-20 national team to a 2-3 defeat by Shin Tae Yong’s Indonesian national team in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. With 20 national teams, they still qualify for the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup as one of the top five winners.
However, when Vietnam’s U-20 national team participates in the 2023 Asian Cup, Dinh Th Nam will no longer be the coach. The coaching seat was then filled by experienced coach Hoang Ang Tuan.
2. Philippe Troussier (Vietnam National Team)
Philippe Troussier returned from coaching the Vietnam national team. This was after the Vietnam national team lost three times in a row to the Indonesian national team.
