Prabowo Subianto vows to visit Papua New Guinea after being sworn in as president

Jakarta – Indonesian Defence Minister and President-elect of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, is scheduled to visit Papua New Guinea. He will do so after officially assuming the office of President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Prabowo made the announcement after receiving a visit from Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape and his entourage at the Ministry of Defence in Jakarta on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Prabowo said this visit aims to continue the good relations between the two countries, which continue under the leadership of President Jokowi’s government.

“One of my future actions will be, among other things, to visit Papua New Guinea at the beginning of my administration,” Prabowo said.

“He really wants to have close relations with Indonesia. And so do I. “I want to continue President Joko Widodo’s policy and they are very happy,” he said.

Prabowo said President Jokowi has strengthened good relations with neighboring countries and there are many areas of cooperation that can be strengthened in the future.

“Pak Joko Widodo’s relationship with our neighbours is very good. President Joko Widodo has just visited PNG. I promise to visit him soon as well. There are many areas where we can continue to collaborate. “They are determined to work with us,” he said.

Papua New Guinea Prabowo also has the same philosophy of state life as Indonesia, that is, mutual respect for all the strengths of each country.

“We want to maintain good relations. They also share our philosophy. They want to respect all countries, all forces. We have almost the same opinion regarding all countries,” he stressed.
