SBY bids farewell to Jokowi, wants to serve as special advisor to the Global Alliance Against Malaria in the United States


Jakarta, VIVA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) welcomed the sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

During the meeting, SBY conveyed to President Jokowi his mandate as special advisor to the Global Partnership to Eradicate Malaria.

“I am confronting the President regarding the role and authority I will play as the UN Special Adviser on Malaria Eradication. I have been mandated to become the Special Adviser for the Asia-Pacific region,” SBY said in a statement on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

SBY also explained Indonesia’s commitment to reducing the number of malaria cases. During the meeting, SBY bid farewell to President Jokowi to attend the Global Forum of the Partnership Against Malaria or Asia-Pacific Leaders Alliance (APLMA) in New York, United States (US).

“I said that Indonesia is also interested in reducing the number of malaria patients in our country, and I am also committed to the Asia-Pacific region. I said goodbye by going to New York for about a week,” SBY said.

He also highlighted the importance of the forum for the immediate eradication of malaria in the world. Furthermore, SBY emphasized that malaria must be eradicated immediately, especially in several provinces in Indonesia that are still affected by malaria.

“We don’t want to have malaria that cannot be eradicated all over the world. In Indonesia itself, mainly in Papua, a little bit in East Nusa Tenggara, a little bit in Maluku and a little bit more in East Kalimantan,” he said.
