Sentenced to 10 years in prison, SYL: It’s all for the interest of the nation and the people


Jakarta – Former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo alias SYL welcomes the decision of the Jakarta Central Court for Corruption Crimes (Tipikor) to sentence him to 10 years in prison.

Syahrul Yasin Limpo said after the verdict was read out: “I fully appreciate that I am a person who follows the rules and the judges. I respect the findings of the Panel of Judges in this very long judicial process.”

Earlier, the panel of judges at the Corruption Crimes Court (Tipikor) of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) sentenced former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo alias SYL to 10 years in prison for corruption at the Ministry of Agriculture.

SYL Article 12 letter e juncto Article 18 of Law (UU) No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) jo. Article 64, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

In addition, the judge imposed on SYL an additional sentence of 2 years in prison in the form of restitution in the amount of IDR 14,147,144,786 plus USD 30,000.

The judge assessed that SYL was proven to have extorted or received rewards totalling Rs 44.5 billion related to corruption cases in the Ministry of Agriculture.
