Susi Air pilot released by OPM, Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih: now in Timika

Timika, long live – The operation to free New Zealand Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens, who was held hostage by OPM Papua’s Egianus Kogoya armed criminal group, has finally been successful. Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens was successfully released today, Saturday 21 September 2024, after a negotiation process that lasted almost 19 months.

Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih TNI Major General Rudy Puruwito said that currently Susi pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens is already in Timika. The plan is for Susi Air pilot Philip Mark Mehrtens to fly to Jakarta on an Indonesian Air Force Boeing aircraft.

Pangdam Sendravasih further expressed her gratitude that the priority of saving the pilot was successfully implemented. This is due to the good cooperation of traditional leaders, community leaders, religious leaders, youth leaders and women leaders, as well as good coordination between the regional government, TNI Polri and the community.

Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih TNI Major General Rudy Puruwito also explained that Captain Philip’s condition is now being reviewed following the release of the Susi Air pilot, so his health and morale are expected to be completely stable.

“Thanks to all parties who have helped and supported this humanitarian mission so far, the pilot has been successfully rescued,” said Pangdam Sendravasih.
