Budi Prasetio, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Customs Advisory Services, said that the monitoring is carried out by visiting modern and traditional businesses.

“We will compare the retail price of tobacco tax stamps with the prices set by sellers, and also record the types, content, brand and manufacturing companies,” he said.

According to Prasetio, this monitoring serves as a basis for determining tax policy, especially for tobacco products.

“Through this monitoring we can ensure that the selling price of cigarettes on the market does not exceed the established limit,” he said.

Tobacco tax is one of the sources of state revenue. The Ministry of Finance has established tax provisions for each tobacco product through various regulations.

Tax rates for tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, leaf tobacco and shredded tobacco are regulated by PMK No. 191/PMK.010/2022, while e-cigarettes and other processed tobacco products are regulated by PMK No. 192/PMK.010/2022.

“In addition to monitoring, we also inform tobacco sellers about the rules related to illegal cigarettes, the general description of tobacco tax stamps and how to report illegal tobacco trafficking to customs,” he concluded.
