Three days after the earthquake, the Ministry of Social Affairs continues to meet the needs of thousands of refugees in Bandung.


VIVA – The Ministry of Social Affairs team led by Plt. Director of Social Welfare for Disaster Victims (PSKBA), Masriani Mansur, is still on standby 24 hours a day in the field attending to the needs of thousands of Bandung earthquake evacuees.

“Logistical assistance has been distributed equally to all evacuation points,” Masriani said during the delivery of various logistical assistance to refugees in Bandung Regency on Saturday morning (21/9/2024).

Masriani prioritizes providing assistance to the elderly and children, as they are more vulnerable to injuries.

“Many people have asked for help with mattresses, blankets and food for the children,” Masriani said.

Bandung earthquake evacuees still rely on the Ministry of Social Affairs’ community kitchen to meet their daily food needs. This community kitchen can serve a total of 6,000 food parcels per day.

According to Iyan Mul, an official at the Public Kitchen of the Ministry of Social Affairs, breakfast and lunch will be prepared from 4:00 a.m. After 8:00 a.m., food was distributed to evacuation points. Meanwhile, lunch (dinner) is served at 1:00 p.m.

In addition to focusing on the emergency response period, the Ministry of Social Affairs also carries out disaster relief efforts through various programs. According to Masriani, the Ministry of Social Affairs has provided earthquake-related information to the public through village disaster preparedness programs and school enrollment in Tagana.

The PSKBA Department of the Ministry of Social Affairs has also established a social depot in several locations in West Java, including a standby depot at the Ministry of Social Affairs’ Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) at the Abiyoso Simahi Center, Bandung Waita Guna Center, and the Bandung Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS).

“In addition to our UPT, standby reserves have also been deployed in various social services in West Java,” Masriani said.
