“The success in intercepting cocaine-type drugs on Berhala Island and crystal methamphetamine in the waters of Nunukan in North Kalimantan and this is part of the success of cooperation with information from BIN, BAIS, police intelligence, BNN and stakeholders in the field,” said Pangkoarmada RI TNI Admiral Denih Hendrata at a press conference at the Indonesian Armed Forces Headquarters, Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, Thursday, September 19, 2024.

He further explained that the revelation of two cases of illegal drug trafficking in Indonesian waters is proof that Indonesia has been an easy target for drug trafficking networks.

“These two cases also show how vulnerable drug trafficking is for our region, so we have to be vigilant, because we are facing the geographical constellation of Indonesia’s territory, it is an archipelagic country, so the entry of everyone can be easy. And without information, without cooperation, without operational cooperation, this will not happen,” he said.

He also learned that the geographical conditions of Indonesia’s territorial waters make it difficult for law enforcement officials, especially the Indonesian Navy, to reduce the number of illegal drugs entering Indonesian territory.

The three-star senior officer of the Indonesian Navy (Pati) therefore stressed that his party will continue to fight drug trafficking networks that often use sea routes to enter Indonesia by strengthening security on the outer islands and rat routes.

“Although there are still many defectors, God willing, we will become stronger depending on how we develop our technological capabilities and are able to control every point of the sea. Because we have many warships and we also have the technology under Puskodal. “This should be improved with the cooperation of Puskodal from all institutions, including the BNN itself,” he said.

At the same location, the commander of the I Navy, TNI Admiral Yoos Suryono, explained that the chronology of the discovery of cocaine weighing 84.75 kg began with the information obtained by the intelligence network.

Based on this information, his party deployed the patrol vessel KAL Tanjung Pandang to conduct patrols around waters believed to be drug trafficking hotspots through this sea route.

While conducting a maritime patrol, Pangkoarmada I, KAL Tanjung Pandang detected two suspicious objects floating in the waters of the Strait of Malacca.

“Yesterday, September 16, our KAL received information from lateral elements of BIN, BAIS, the community. We have made coordination, good cooperation between agencies, so we sent a KAL Tanjung Pandang to patrol and then the merchandise. “The cocaine weighed 84.75 kilograms,” Rear Admiral of the Navy I, Yoos Suryono, told the press.

“But there was no one there, he was already swimming, maybe they fell deliberately in that place, then the messenger will take him away,” he added.

Meanwhile, regarding the arrest of 1,065 grams of crystal methamphetamine trafficked in waters off Nunukan, North Kalimantan, Pangkoarda II, TNI Admiral Ariantyo Kondrovibowo explained that this success was due to intelligence provided by BNN and BAIS on the existence of drug trafficking.

Based on this intelligence, the Indonesian Navy increased its efforts to monitor passenger cargo from Sebatik Island to Nunukan and Tarakan.

Following inspection of the passengers, the Indonesian Navy was able to identify a drug courier with the initials T.

Before being arrested, T attempted to escape from the officers by jumping into the sea. However, the attempt was thwarted and the methamphetamine courier with the initials T was successfully returned from the sea to land.

“After the inspection in question, we found two packages. One large package of 500 grams and then a package consisting of small packages, the total weight of which was also about 500 grams. Thus, the total was 1065 grams or 1 kilo and 65 grams,” said TNI Admiral Ariantyo Kondrovibovo of Pangkoarmada II.

“It is a manual capture that we will then develop networks that we can also track with BIN, BNN and BAIS,” he said.
